The aim of law committees is to bring initiative
of members into full play, to be selfregulated
and self-strengthened, to improve
lawyers specialization, expand areas of
practice, enhance professional quality and
overall level of legal profession. Their main
activities include theoretical research, exchange
of experiences, providing suggestions
and proposals towards legislative, judicial,
and social affairs from different law perspective
and drafting related professional codes
and rules.
Criminal Law Committee
Founded in Nov. 1996, this committee now
has 42 fellow members, among them, 1 Chair
and 4 vice chairs.
The aim of the
committee is to do
research and study
on rules of criminal
law and criminal
procedure law, establish
and push forward improvement in
Chinese criminal defense system, to forward
and try to solve the problems and difficulties
faced by lawyers during their criminal defending
process, to create better environment
for criminal defense, summarize and give
guidance to experiences and practices in
criminal defense and safeguard the lawful
rights of criminal defense lawyers.
Its duties are:
• to study in depth the difficulties during
the implementation of criminal law
and criminal procedure law through
close cooperation with legal experts,
legislative and judicial persons.
• to investigate and summarize the problems
faced by defending lawyers in
their practice and provide resolution
methods and suggestions.
• to cooperate, coordinate with legislative
and judicial organs, to exchange,
call on and reflect the problems faced
by defense lawyers and forward suggestions
and proposals on issues in relating
with legislation, judiciary and
administration.
• to make professional rules in criminal
defense, guide and normalize criminal
defense work nationwide.
• to organize and carry out training programs
in criminal defense for lawyers,
and compile textbooks and hold training
sessions.
• to participate in international collaboration
in criminal law area, learn from
experiences and lessons drawn from
foreign criminal defense' theory and
practice, enlarge international contact,
exchange and promotion in order to
improve standard of criminal defense
nationwide as a whole.
• to safeguard the due rights of lawyers
in their lawful practice, to guarantee
smooth going of defense and representation
and to defend for lawyers who
suffer from unlawful investigation of
criminal liability.
• to study important issues in criminal
defense and high profile criminal cases,
compile well-known defending cases,
collect and sort out reference information
in criminal defense.
Civil Law Committee
Founded in 1988, this committee now has 54
fellow members, among them one Chair and
4 Vice Chairs.
The aim of the committee is to organize its
members, researchers and lawyers doing research
on civil and commercial law theory
and exchange on practice, issue legislative
and judicial proposals on civil and commercial
law and improve lawyers practice quality.
Its duties are:
• to conduct research on civil and commercial
law in the form of forums covering
real estate law, company law,
private property law and civil procedure
law.
• to make suggestions on legislation, judiciary
and professional code and rules.
• to collect professional information,
compile essays and sort out materials.
• to exchange and work with civil law
committees of local bars.
